Long Island Solar Pros
Solar Incentives in New York
New York remains one of the strongest states for residential solar incentives. The New York State residential solar energy system equipment credit (25% of qualified expenditures, capped at $5,000), NYSERDA programs (including the Long Island solar + storage installation incentive), and PSEG Long Island net metering can take a meaningful bite out of the net cost of going solar. Federal residential incentives have changed — we verify current eligibility during the consultation rather than building marketing math around an assumption.

The Long Island incentive stack — what gets reviewed
First, the New York State residential Solar Energy System Equipment Credit — 25% of qualified solar energy system equipment expenditures, limited to $5,000. The credit is non-refundable, but unused amounts can be carried over for up to five tax years (per the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance).
Second, PSEG Long Island net metering, which gives you energy credits when your system sends power back to the grid.
Third, NYSERDA programs — including a NY-Sun installation incentive for the energy storage component when Long Island residents pair solar and storage, and eligibility for LIPA's Dynamic Load Management program.
Federal residential clean energy incentives have changed. The IRS Residential Clean Energy Credit applied to qualified property installed from 2022 through December 31, 2025 and is not available for property placed in service after that date. The planning review does not assume a federal residential credit on 2026 quotes — we verify any active federal program at the time of your consultation and only reference what is actually available.
How they actually combine
The New York State credit reduces your New York State tax. PSEG net metering reduces your future PSEG bills. NYSERDA storage incentives flow through eligible installs at the time of project. Any active federal residential credit (verified at the time of install) reduces your federal tax. These programs generally apply in different places and do not directly cancel each other out.
Incentives change and eligibility varies. Confirm details with the program administrator and a qualified tax professional. This is general information, not tax advice.
NYSERDA, NY-Sun, and choosing a participating installer
NYSERDA administers the NY-Sun program for residential solar in New York State. Participating contractors are vetted by NYSERDA, and contractors can earn a Quality Solar Installer (QSI) designation that requires active NY-Sun status, a minimum of 12 projects in the past calendar year, and an average NYSERDA inspection score of 4.0 out of 5.
Working with a NYSERDA-participating contractor is one way to anchor your project to a vetted standard. Programs change — the planning review tracks current programs and notes what is available, and tells you straight when something has expired or changed. Long Island Solar Pros provides solar installation help; we are not a NYSERDA-designated contractor ourselves.
